“Heaven Cannot Be Reached By Climbing
A Ladder Of Dead Men’s Bones.”
The Initiate By His Pupil

After having spent most of the last 8 years in what I would call a “dark cycle”, it seems to be time to move on. This has all caught me quite by surprise. It feels a bit like the rug has been pulled from under my feet. After having felt a certain way for so many years, it is somewhat of a shock to the system to transition to some place else. And with this paradigm shift, there has been profound change. I am learning “happy.” Not awake, not aware, not deep, not present, not spinning out on this drug or that medicine, but rather moving toward deliriously happy. Go figure.
And happiness brings about a whole new set of challenges. Namely, I feel the universe slapping me in the face and telling me to clean up my past. Any one who has been in the dark cycle knows that there just isn’t a whole lot of choice involved. Think a pinball going full tilt. Things happen, people get hurt, life goes on. At a level deeper than I have ever known, I see how every action has an equal and forceful consequence, or reaction. And it is even more subtle than that. Not only every action, but every thought (which is an action after all…) has an equal and forceful consequence. Every thought!
Masturbate much? I have been in hundreds of men’s group meetings. Guys whack off. Some more than others. Some a lot more than others. Some a remarkable amount more than others, but that is another story. I got to thinking about the energetic exchange that occurs during masturbation. I have noticed there are many different ways to categorize masturbation, but will look at just two broad categories here. The first is the guy who masturbates looking at either a photo, a movie, internet porn or some other representation of a woman. The other is the guy who masturbates and focuses on the sensual feelings in his body. Methinks the former group is much, much larger than the latter. But of the former, what is the energetic exchange that occurs, and what impact does that have on our energy bodies when looked at through the lens of cause and effect?
Every thought has a reverberating after effect on our lives. The law of cause and effect is undeniable. The law of cause and effect is the mechanism behind the law of attraction. Have you seen the movie The Secret? It is all cause and effect. Change the cause and you get a different effect. Change miserable thoughts to pleasant thoughts, and the world around you begins to become more pleasant. The outside circumstances of your life reflect your inner life. So if you want a different outer life, begin to create a new inner life.
Back to masturbation, something all of us guys can relate to. So there you are, pulling on your Johnson while looking at some woman with large breasts in a very erotic gymnastic position you would have a hard time describing with words. What is the energetic message you are sending out to the universe. Well, speaking from experience, I have been saying quite a few things. See if any of these fit the picture. “I am superior to women!” “Women are put on this earth to provide me pleasure whenever I want!” “I don’t really want anyone to know I am doing this!” “I can’t control my desires, and just have to come whenever I get the feeling!” Those are just a few, perhaps you can come up with more. The point being that every cause has an effect. What could possibly be the effect of these subtle and not so suble thoughts and feelings that occur during masturbation?
Ask a woman. What would she say? I believe most women can feel when a man is trustable….and there are definitely many levels of trustable. The point is, a woman can feel when a man see’s her as inferior. She can sense when a man is out of control. She can sense when a man is living with latent shame. Woman is a barometer of the universe. And what she senses is being energetically delivered to you ten if not a thousand fold. Just a thought…
I picked up a book quite randomly, and it has been one of the most beautiful reading experiences of my life. I had decided to take a weekend off a few weeks back, and hang out with my daughter Paulina. We hit the Copperfields used book store in Sebastopol, and found a book called, of all things, The Initiate. And it is written anonymously by His Pupil. Here is an exerpt from the book featuring an initiate speaking to a pupil. The male pupil is struggling with his desires regarding a female pupil.
“For your error does not consist in your defeat, bur rather in your lack of humility, prompting you to deem yourself stronger than in all truth you are as yet, seeing perfection cannot be attained in a few weeks, or even months or years, and more than often not in a whole lifetime. Moreover, you have misunderstood the nature of the problem, which does not consist in the total annihilation of all passion by a process of killing out, but rather its purification and control.
For learn that passion is of three kinds: the selfish gratification of one’s own desire for the mere sake of obtaining sexual pleasure, without taking into account the welfare of one’s partner in the act, and that is the first and lowest kind, since it is devoid not only of unselfishness, but also of the purifying influence of love. And the second form is the desire for union with the body of a woman for whom one entertains affection and devotion, yet nevertheless in the act of passion thinks of one’s own pleasure rather than hers. And the third and highest is when one thinks no more of self at all, but solely of the welfare and enjoyment of the beloved, performing the act of passion not for the gratification of the senses, but solely as an expression of love on the physical plane, or in other words, to bring another being into the world of men.”
Great stuff the universe delivers. So simple, so clean, so spot on. I marvel, daily of late, at how the universe is so loving and supportive, if only we get out of the way and let it be. Just two nights ago, I was having a dream. In my dream, I noticed I was having a cigarette. Once I had noticed this little cancer stick in my mouth, I immediately, and with great disgust, threw the cigarette to the ground. I then tried to figure out how that cigarette got into my mouth, and then realized I was in some alternate reality, for I am no longer a smoker. In an instant, I was in a lucid dream. It has been some time since I had a lucid dream, in which anything is possible. After awaking, I came to the crashing realization that we are all, in fact, living in a lucid dream. No kidding. Anything is possible. It is only the roadblocks that we place in front of ourselves that keep us from heaven.
“And so the moral is: Into everything whatsoever it be, bring purity and love, which is the secret of health and harmony of the body as well as of the soul.”
