Grail Labyrinth

Grail Labyrinth

The Grail, my first time–a personal recollection.

Well as I remember it went a bit like this……..
Average bloke having a pretty good life in Byron. Wife comes home about 8
years ago & says she’s discovered this amazing space at this 3 day women’s
process thingy. Waxes ecstatic. “That’s nice babe” says bloke & goes back to
watching footy on the tube.
As time passes bloke sees wife attending these 3 day processes more
regularly & starts to notice changes in her behaviour, i.e.
* she’s more loving in a curiously challenging way
*she initiates horizontal folk dancing more often
*she chucks spectacular, technicolour, sensurround wobblies
* and  she’s more fascinating/exasperating to be around.
Bloke thinks it’s better than being married to a dull one.
Then, in mid ‘96 wife tells bloke about a 3 day process for blokes called
“The Grail” [cue dramatic music].
Bloke notices he is feeling something-decides it must’ve been the chillies
with lunch & continues looking for T.V. remote under couch.
Late ‘97 wife presents bloke with combination birthday/wedding anniversary
gift -a place at the second Grail ever held in Australia!!!!
Wife looks like cat who got cream-bloke searches mind for escape route,
unfortunately mind is checking tide times & wind direction & cannot handle
additional task.
Approximately 2 weeks before Grail bloke discovers that it is facilitated by
[gasp] women & runs righteous indignation loudly until notices no-one is
paying attention.
Having committed bloke thinks “What’s the worst that can happen?”
& assumes attitude of studied nonchalance.
Day 1 of Grail–bloke looks for exit
Day 2 of Grail–bloke actually feels without intellectualising.
Day 3 of Grail–bloke experiences terror mixed with omnipotent safety, moves
out of comfort zone, discovers personal edge, finds it exhilirating, wants
more. Senses old patterns of behaviour will no longer be congruent with
new-found heart space. Bugger.
